La storia artistica e umana tra Gino Paoli e Ornella Vanoni trova oggi un nuovo, toccante capitolo in Quando ti rivedrò, un brano rimasto per tempo al chiuso di uno studio e ora pronto a svelarsi al pubblico.
Distribuito da Sugar, l’inedito farà la sua comparsa il 23 settembre, proprio nella notte sospesa tra i loro compleanni, quello di Ornella il 22 e quello di Gino il 23. Una coincidenza di date che sa di appuntamento stabilito dal destino. Dal 25 settembre il pezzo sarà poi disponibile nel doppio LP e CD che riedita la raccolta Appunti di un lungo viaggio.
Doveva essere un duetto, un ennesimo incontro a due voci dopo una vita passata a cantarsi e a cercarsi dentro e fuori dal palco, da Senza fine in poi. La scomparsa improvvisa di Ornella Vanoni, arrivata a un passo dall'incisione prevista nella casa di Nervi, ha lasciato quella melodia a metà. Di fronte a un vuoto incolmabile, Paoli ha fatto una scelta di rispetto e di affetto: non cercare un’altra voce, perché nessuno avrebbe potuto prendere il posto di Ornella, ma chiamare la tromba di Paolo Fresu.
Amico fraterno di entrambi e figura di punta del jazz italiano, Fresu ha raccolto il testimone, trasformando il proprio strumento nel soffio e nell'anima di Ornella. Il risultato è un dialogo intimo in cui la voce profonda di Gino si intreccia alle note della tromba, ricomponendo una complicità che il tempo non ha scalfito.
La nascita del brano porta la firma musicale di Adriano Pennino e risale a una notte di viaggio durante un tour con Paoli. L'idea di un testo sul ritrovarsi dopo essersi persi ha preso forma lentamente, fino a fissarsi in un pomeriggio di pioggia a Roma: una sola presa al microfono, buona la prima, con l'intenzione sincera e la naturalezza di chi la musica la vive prima di scriverla.
La nuova edizione di Appunti di un lungo viaggio rende omaggio anche al Paoli pittore. L’immagine di copertina nasce infatti da un ritaglio di una sua opera visiva, mentre l'interno del vinile custodisce il dipinto completo affiancato dalle parole scritte dal cantautore per raccontare la genesi di questo pezzo.
L'uscita consolida il lungo percorso con Sugar, che custodisce trent'anni di memoria musicale dell'artista. Un'eredità che oggi si arricchisce di un brano malinconico e vitale, capace di trasformare un'assenza in un ascolto indimenticabile.

The artistic and human bond between Gino Paoli and Ornella Vanoni finds a new, deeply moving chapter today in Quando ti rivedrò, a song that remained kept away in a recording studio for time and is now ready to be revealed to the public.
Released by Sugar, the unreleased track will make its appearance on September 23rd, right in the night suspended between their birthdays—Ornella's on the 22nd and Gino's on the 23rd. A coincidence of dates that feels like an appointment set by fate. From September 25th, the song will then be available in the double LP and CD re-issue of the collection Appunti di un lungo viaggio.
It was meant to be a duet, yet another two-voice encounter after a lifetime spent singing to each other and searching for one another on and off stage, from Senza fine onwards. The sudden passing of Ornella Vanoni, coming just a step away from the recording scheduled at the home in Nervi, left that melody halfway through. Facing an irreplayable void, Paoli made a choice of respect and affection: not to look for another voice, because no one could ever take Ornella's place, but to call upon the trumpet of Paolo Fresu.
A fraternal friend to both and a leading figure in Italian jazz, Fresu picked up the mantle, transforming his instrument into Ornella's breath and soul. The result is an intimate dialogue in which Gino's deep voice weaves together with the notes of the trumpet, rebuilding a togetherness that time has not eroded.
The origins of the track bear the musical signature of Adriano Pennino and date back to a night on the road during a tour with Paoli. The idea for a lyric about finding each other again after being lost took shape slowly, until setting itself down on a rainy afternoon in Rome: a single take at the microphone, good on the first try, with the genuine intention and natural ease of someone who lives music before writing it.
The new edition of Appunti di un lungo viaggio also pays tribute to Paoli the painter. The cover artwork stems from a detail of one of his visual works, while the inside of the vinyl gatefold houses the complete painting alongside the words written by the singer-songwriter to tell the story behind this song.
The release consolidates the long-standing journey with Sugar, which preserves thirty years of the artist's musical memory. A heritage that today is enriched by a melancholic and vital track, capable of turning an absence into an unforgettable listening experience.
