Beth Gibbons announces the final Lives Outgrown concerts: the only Italian date set for July 22, 2027, at Udine Castle

The summer of 2027 will mark the final chapter of an intimate, painful, and beautiful journey. Beth Gibbons has announced the last dates for Lives Outgrown, her acclaimed solo debut nominated for the Mercury Prize, confirming that the European tour will conclude with a single, highly anticipated Italian date. The event featuring the historic and magnetic voice of Portishead is set for July 22, 2027, in the evocative setting of Udine Castle.

This tour represents the farewell performance for a work ten years in the making. After traveling across South America in the spring of 2027, the British artist will bring her farewell concert to European stages, an experience bound to stay etched in the memories of those who loved the record. As Gibbons herself stated, concluding the path of Lives Outgrown wraps up an experience shared alongside extraordinary musicians and friends, supported by a deep and widespread affection along the way.

Organized by VignaPR and FVG Music Live in collaboration with Virus Concerti and the City of Udine, the Friuli concert promises to be one of the most significant musical and cultural events of the year. Tickets will be available starting at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 30, 2026, online via Ticketone.it, through the international Eventim platform (Eventim.si/hr), and at authorized sales points.

Co-produced alongside James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Depeche Mode) and Lee Harris (former Talk Talk drummer), Lives Outgrown is a uncompromising yet tender portrait of middle age. The album addresses subjects far removed from traditional pop—such as the passing of time, physical decline, menopause, anxiety, and grief—transforming them into pure art. The work reflects many inevitable goodbyes, to lost friends and family members, as well as a final farewell to the person she used to be.

In her rare and touching statements, Gibbons describes this moment in life as an unavoidable clash with the reality of her own body: "I realized what it was like to live without hope. And it was a sadness I’d never felt before. Before, I had the ability to change my future, but when you’re confronting your body, you can’t force it to do something it doesn’t want to do." Menopause is experienced by the artist as a profound reckoning, an emotional and physical impact capable of knocking you off your feet, giving birth to songs created midway through life's journey, when looking back reveals far sharper outlines than looking ahead.

Sonically, the delicate nature of these themes finds refuge in an almost esoteric acoustic exploration, where traditional beats have been completely cast aside. Acoustic and electric textures are crafted by hand without digital plug-ins, creating cinematic atmospheres and Middle Eastern nuances. The instrumentation ranges from vibrant strings to tactile percussion: Ford strikes the piano with a spoon, while Lee Harris turns tin cans, wooden drawers, Tupperware containers, and even a paella pan into rhythmic elements. Udine will host a transparent performance by a unique artist, capable of turning the weight of human vulnerability into shared, pure beauty.
